The EMEA (European Medicins Agency) in London is, amongst other tasks, responsable for gathering and controlling all necessary information about every medecin available in the european market. In the framework of this pharmacovigilance and drug safety monitoring tasks i.Know worked out a very succesful pilot application to assist the EMEA-specialists in efficiently handling the huge amounts of unstructured patient case narratives they have to study and exploit.
The application allows EMEA experts to:
- have a quick overview of all information available about a certain case or a specific medicin
- quickly have an insight about the overlaps and differences between the information already available about cases and medicins in their structured databases and the information in the unstructured textual case narratives.
- quickly identify the different episodes of a specific case even if it is not in a version control system
- immediately relate a specific case to relevant and closely related other cases
- semi-automatically update and maintain the different taxonomies and ontologies they use internally
